Hi beauties! It’s been an obscenely long time, I know. Right now, I’m not even going to get into the hows and the whys of where I’ve been. After all, you’re here for Korean skincare reviews, not the unbalanced rambling of a quarter-life-crising 20-something, right?

Instead, let’s talking about something more fun than nihilism: the NoTS Skincare Beauty Box
NoTS Beauty Box

What is it?
The Brand:

NoTS (Noble Through Skin) is a premium Korean skincare and makeup brand that prides itself on creating high-quality, eco-friendly products for busy women. The entire line promises to be gentle on sensitive skin, thanks to NoTS patented herbal complex, which combines anti-acne, hydrating and sebum controlling properties. The creator developed NoTS originally to combat her son’s atopic dermatitis and that love continues to go into the brand.

The Product:

While NoTS skincare range is fairly vast, I reviewed a beauty box which contained 4 items from their 28 day remedy set:

  • NoTS 28 Remedy Acne Pore Deep Cleanser ($38.40)
  • NoTS 28 Remedy Balancing Toner ($67.20)
  • NoTS 28 Remedy Intensive Serum ($75.60)
  • NoTS 28 Remedy Repair Cream ($102.00)

neutralAs you know, skincare isn’t my passion in the same way it is SampleHime’s or Skin & Tonic’s. I might not be passionate about skincare, but I AM passionate about prolonging the days before I routinely look like Anjelica Houston on a bad day. That growing fear is enough to make me just disciplined enough to stick to a 28 day skin care regimen, even when hung over…

Anyway, this beauty box makes it pretty easy for me. I like that they’re displayed in the order that you’d use them, because otherwise I’d probably constantly grab the serum thinking it was the toner.

Talking about the individual products…

NoTS 28 Remedy Acne Pore Deep Cleanser

good2The NoTs 28 Remedy Acne Pore Deep Cleanser (120ml) is a cleanser formulated with acne-prone skin in mind. It has a really fresh, clean smell that makes me think of Bioré Glowing Bright Facial Foam. I don’t get much acne now I’m no longer a teenager (weep), but I do have oily skin, so random blocked pores definitely do happen (I may or may not change my pillow cases as often as I should…). The 28 Remedy Acne Pore Deep Cleanser contains Salicylic Acid, which is great for acne control IMO.

Anyway, I simply squirt a small amount of product into my palm and add water before massaging onto my face until it lathers into a nice foam. It leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh without drying it out. It’s also effective at removing makeup, though I tend to get most of mine off with a makeup wipe before cleansing, so I’m not 100% sure how well it’d go with heavy eye makeup.

NoTS 28 Remedy Balancing Toner

Next up is the NoTs 28 Remedy Balancing Toner (100ml). Keep in mind that Korean toners aren’t like their Western cousins. Western toners tend to be astringent and harsh on the skin, where as Korean toners are calming and offer hydration that makes the skin better able to absorb the serum you follow them with (if you’re not lazy like me).

This toner helps to combat excess sebum production and address issues with pigmentation. The scent is minimal and the texture is watery, as you’d expect. Pat it on and wait for it to absorb before applying your serum. I’m not sure it has done anything for my perpetually flushed cheeks, but I feel like my skin is a little less oily over all lately.  Oh, and apparently it was featured on the Korean Reality Tv show about plastic surgery, Let Me In. I don’t know about you, but I f’ing love terrible reality TV shows. The more awkward, the better.  Please talk to me about them.

NoTS 28 Remedy Intensive Serum

sadbethAhhhh, the NoTS 28 Remedy Intensive Serum (35ml). Containing blue berry fruit extract to nourish the skin and tea tree oil to soothe irritation, this serum apparently also addresses loss of elasticity. Which, thank f*ck, I am not visibly experiencing yet. Additionally, it brightens the skin. Given all the uncontrollable weeping I’ve been doing lately, I think it actually has kept me from waking up completely blotchy and red.

NoTS 28 Remedy Repair Cream

Finally, we’ve got the powerhouse of the set, the 28 Remedy Repair Cream (30g). According to the NOTs Korea website, the 28 Remedy Repair Cream passed GAAS, a visual assessment by specialists. The clinical tests showed significant skin improvement effects. The product’s main goal is to minimise the appearance of pores, brighten the skin (is it just me or do all Korean products contain niacinamide?) and treat acne. It contains plenty of botanical extracts, but smells most strongly of tea tree oil. Honestly, I get a flashback of treating headlice in primary school when I smell it. Lol.

good2It is, however, effective. The one area of my face I still consistently break out on is my chin. After a month of use, the skin there is a lot less irritated and prone to breakouts. I found that using this product every day instead of every second day, however, gives me mild redness on my cheeks. I think although it’s supposedly formulated for sensitive skin, it might be a bit too much for me. Every second day, I use it ONLY to spot treat and that solved the problem.

Summary

positives

  • Natural ingredients
  • Moisturising properties
  • Proven clinical results
  • Effectively treats acne
  • Brightens the skin
  • Cleanser leaves skin feeling fresh~
  • Cleanser removes makeup

negative

  • 28 Remedy Repair Cream has a strong scent
  • 28 Remedy Repair Cream may be too strong for sensitive skin
  • THE PRICE
  • May be difficult to track down for those who don’t shop online and live outside of Asia

verdict
The NoTS Beauty Box does all that it promises to. Together, the four products gave me the most in-depth nightly skincare routine I’ve ever had. Lol. HOWEVER, the price point reminds me that the collection is probably better suited to ladies entering their thirties (with jobs to show for it!) experiencing the first signs of aging. The 28 Remedy Repair Cream did wonders for the acne on my chin, though I could never personally justify paying $100 for it. But if you’ve got the cash and a bad case of persistent acne, go for it – it’s probably the most effective product I’ve ever used for areas that just won’t clear.

If you’re interested, you can pick up any or all of these NoTS products at the Q-Depot.

How much do you spend a month on skincare?
